One of San Joaquin County's greatest resources is its abundant, reliable and affordable work force, with a wide range of abilities and training. (Rich Turner Photography)

Employees in San Joaquin County benefit from a large, growing, and productive labor pool. With a work force of 282,200 in March of 2006, unemployment in San Joaquin County was 7.9% compared to 5% statewide. In addition, the CalWORKS employment center is a valuable labor resource, with a monthly pool of approximately 400 ready-to-work employees.  Much of the County's unemployment is due to seasonal variation in the agricultural sector and related food processing industries.  The unemployed labor pool at the end of February, 2006 totaled 22,700 persons.
